A friend of mine at work just gave me a smoker!

It's an old one, but it's in really good shape. I've wanted one for years but never got around to getting one. I've got some whites in the freezer I can't wait to try it out on.

This spells good news for me for river fishing! Goldeye, mountain whites, maybe some trout.... yipee!

So I finally broke that smoker out, and man it was good!

I took a couple of whites and slapped them in there, did up a couple of pounds of game saugage, and some salmon that a friend of mine gave me from the coast and smoked them all in hickory.

The whites were a little mushy, since I got them last spring in March (last week before the season closed on Pigeon). I think the spawn makes them mushy. 6 hours in the smoker took care of that, though.

I can't wait to try it again. I think I'm going to have to do more river fishing next year if I can find the time. Goldeye and whites. Yum.

Smoking previously frozen fish seems to have a mushy effect on them. If you smoke them a bit longer though it seems to fix that problem. i love smokin trout, salmon or whities and then making a cream cheese dip with the fish mixed in. Awesome with nacho chips

Peace
